At 10:36 PM EST this Sunday, January 20, the Earth will be perfectly positioned between the Sun and the moon, casting a blood red shadow across la luna. With the full moon passing through Leo and partial eclipse, this will be the best time to bring that fire energy and release any negatives that prevent us from being our best selves. It may be cold, but we’re going to light it up babe!

At the moment, I’m sitting in a cafe in Palma, Mallorca near la Placa Major. It’s about 4 in the afternoon on a Sunday, I’ve just finished breakfast (it was a late start), and the coffeehouse chatter humming in the background fills the air as fresh espresso grounds crush softly in the background. This quiet coffee shop moves from a soft hum to a jittery buzz. Its just about the end of siesta.
On the outskirts of Downtown Seattle, there’s a place you can go to learn how to fly… well, not literally.
Flight Room Seattle, located in the Central District neighborhood, recently opened its doors to their new studio with intent to bring yoga, flight, movement, and zen to all who enter their doors. I’ve experienced different types of yoga classes in Seattle before, but Flight Room takes their classes to a whole new altitude.
By now, I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen it. Our social media feed has been buzzing all about it. Videos and images showing luscious blue-green waterfalls hugging the curves of the canyon. Havasupai Falls; heaven on earth (in Arizona). When my friends first shared their desires to travel this desert oasis, I was immediately hooked. I lusted for those falls, ached for the canyon walls to surround me, and dreamed of the desert adventures awaiting me in the Grand Canyon. I knew we had to make it happen. With the help of my wonderful friends (most of whom I’d had met while partying in Las Vegas 4 months earlier), we began our planning!
I discovered yoga when I was 16. I was young, vulnerable and not quite sure of myself yet. I was also at an age where I was the most insecure about my body. Being pressured and bullied into having a socially accepted body took a toll on my self-esteem and self-worth. At 16, I thought that my value was worth only what I saw in the mirror.
Our practice so far has been building us up for this challenge. We’ve engaged in poses to stabilize our core, built our endurance with level 2 core stabilizing poses, added a little heat with a fire sequence, and now we will finish strong with balance! As with any balance pose we engage in, please proceed with caution. Listen to your body and move slowly through this practice. Feel free to also use a prop or wall for support as we engage.
Fire will be added to our practice this week! We will focus on really strengthening our core through movement. Last week we focused on holding to endure the intensity of our poses. Think of this as a flowing power sequence. Feel free to take a Vinyasa between each of these poses to add some heat to this sequence.
When I began this blog a year ago, I wanted to create space where I could write about my experiences with yoga, fitness, dieting, and overall general health. I had no idea all of these subjects would tie so deeply into my personal life.
