Hello all! So excited to announce that Diana Ratana was nominated for a blogger recognition award by the lovely Janett at Lifestyle Inspire. Her site focuses on helping readers find happiness and wellness inside and out. If you haven’t visited her website already, check it out.
While I’ve been at this site for over a year now, I’ve been working on making an effort to connect with the other bloggers and creators out there. It’s been challenging to stay up to date due to my packed schedule, but I love this site and the community crafted around the blogging world. I am so excited to be a part of this program!
A few steps you have to take to pay it forward. These are to:
- Include who nominated you and a link to their blog.
- Nominate 15 other bloggers for the award.
- Write a story about how and why you started your blog.
- Give new bloggers two pieces of advice.
- Provide a comment on each nominees blog to tell them about the award with a link to this post.
Why I Started this Blog
DianaRatana.com came to life 2 years ago in a dumpy hotel room right during the middle of a Minnesota snowstorm that caused a missed connecting flight between Buffalo, NY and Seattle, WA. I had just graduated college and started my big-girl job as an IT Consultant, travelling cross-country for work. It was an amazing time full of flights, hotels, miles, status, and hours upon hours of work. Although I was having the time of my life with this new experience, I couldn’t help but feel empty. I was so focused on work that I believed that my career was who I was. That my time was only worth spent working. That my job was my life.
I started this blog as a means to document my journey of self-discovery, with the hopes of inspiring others who feel similarly. Since that eye-opening night, I solo-backpacked through Southeast Asia, reconnected back to my roots with yoga, began teaching yoga and barre, hiked the Grand Canyon, traveled for myself and not for work, ended terrible relationships, started beautiful relationships, and learned to love and understand myself more than I ever had before.
Because of my experience and passion for travel and wellness, I write about the destinations that have captivated me, the tips and tricks I’ve picked up to get by, and the experiences that helped me grow. This blog is a living canvas of my life as I discover, share, and explore these known and unknown part of me. Hopefully, you and I can learn a thing or two while here. I welcome any comments, words of wisdom, jokes and insightful anecdotes. Thank you!
Advice for New Bloggers
Take it one step at a time, try not to do everything at once.
Between creating content, engaging your audience, chasing contacts and more, it is easy to feel overwhelmed with all that you feel pressured to do to make your blog “work”. When I first started, I didn’t realize the amount of effort I needed to put into researching social media and SEO strategies. It wasn’t just creating good content, it was getting people to see and engage. I took a solid month researching EVERYTHING, then took a break for a year because I was so overwhelmed with all that I felt I needed to understand. Once I was finally able to pick myself back up, I decided to just follow one strategy at a time until I was comfortable enough to move on to the next.
Don’t forget why you are doing this.
Ultimately, what helps me stay motivated in keeping this site running is that I love helping others and I love writing. I may not be the wisest or most well-traveled yogi, but I believe I can offer a perspective to life, wellness, and travel that people can relate to and practice. I love what how my site represents me, and I believe that in order to keep up with the crazy demands and hours that your site needs, you must constantly remind yourself as to why you’re doing this.
